Appropriate Technology is the design and development of cheap technology to supply basic amenities and community infrastructure to remote communities. The project called Healthabitat is run by Paul Pheleros to design, manufacture and train in the area of hardware for healthy housing. It started in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, and now supplies hardware to communities around Australia.
Healthhabitat did a survey of houses in the town camps in Alice Springs managed by Tangentyere Council in 2006, in their performance in ten Critical Healthy Living Practises (pdf file). This was prior to any fix work, and prior to the Intervention. The results show that the Tangentyere managed houses performed better or equal on 7 out of ten CHLPs, and better than the national average in three CHLPs.
