Bush Mob is an outreach program in Alice Springs
Bushmob programs are for young people who are at risk of being disengaged and marginalised, subject to substance abuse, vioience, unsafe living environments and disempowerment. Bushmob’s unique supporting self advocacy and freedom of choice.
Bushmob began in 1991 from young people of Alice Spring. town camps asking for a program that would work with young people as a neutral body. They wanted to have part ownership of the program, they wanted to go out bush and they wanted to be safe and supported.
Bushmob began as a pilot program with one staff member and has now grown into an incorporated body, has eight staff members, volunteers, peer group mentors (StrongMob) and has four strong programs.
Over the past ten years Bushmob has worked with 1000’s of young people and their families in central Australia and views its work as intergenerational and long term.
