National Indigenous Survey results are available at: AUSTATS

The survey was conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) from August 2008 to April 2009, collecting information from approximately 13,300 Indigenous Australians living in private  dwellings in remote and non-remote areas, including discrete communities.The survey has information on the following :

  • Population context
  • Language and culture
  • Social networks and support
  • Health
  • Education
  • Labour force status
  • Housing
  • Financial stress

    I’ve been listening on the radio to discussion about how the govt
    can’t afford to service the outstations with what Australians usually
    expect from the government. When they set up the Flying Doctor Service
    and the school of the air no one argued that we can’t afford to give
    people who go off and live in remote places in tiny family groups
    education and health services.
    We should all be pointing out what wrong with this perspective and
    what the slant that it has really is ie subtle official racism.
